The new promotion policy has been designed in line with the ever-evolving operational requirements of the force.
“As part of this, a comprehensive review of the promotion policy for selection of officers in the rank of Colonel and above has been finalised,” an Army official said.
He said the new policy will help the forces align leadership requirements to current and emerging operational challenges in both internal and external dimensions.
The new policy provides for increased promotion opportunities while addressing the aspirations of the senior leadership by providing more promotional opportunities to officers of the rank of Major General, officers approved only in the Staff and officers who are eligible for promotion to the next rank only in the Staff. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also appealed to the people to donate wholeheartedly to the Armed Forces Flag Day (AFFD) Fund and be a part of the government’s effort to ensure the welfare of ‘veer naris’, ex-servicemen and their families.
