ED raids Atiq Ahmed’s hideouts in Prayagraj, UP

Prayagraj: On the one hand, Bahubali mafia Atiq Ahmed is being brought to Prayagraj for questioning in the Umesh Pal murder case. On the other hand, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is taking action against Atiq Ahmed. These ED raids are happening at many places in Uttar Pradesh. This search operation of ED is going on at about 13 locations. The ED team has raided the house of Atiq’s accountant Sitaram Shukla, convicted prisoner Khan Shoulat in Prayagraj. At the same time, Ashraf Ahmed, brother of gangster Atiq Ahmed, is also being brought to Prayagraj court under the Umesh Pal murder case.

Atiq Ahmed is being brought from Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail to Prayagraj to appear before a local court in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case. A team of Uttar Pradesh Police is bringing him by road. Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were shot dead on February 24 this year outside their house in Dhoomanganj area of Prayagraj.

Based on a complaint lodged by Umesh Pal’s wife, a case was registered on February 25 against Atiq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf, wife Shaista Parveen, two sons, Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, and nine others. On March 26, the Uttar Pradesh Police had taken Atiq Ahmed from Sabarmati Jail to Prayagraj to produce him in the court.

In 2021, the ED attached assets worth over Rs 8 crore against Ahmed and his wife as part of a money laundering probe. At that time also it had done some searches. The agency had said that its investigation found that “Ahmed, through criminal activities, used to earn money and the same was deposited/kept in his and his relative’s bank accounts”.
