The confrontation between Russian and Ukrainian armies escalates
On Wednesday, Ukraine launched a scathing attack on Russian forces to snatch Russian-occupied Kherson. It is learned that the military hospital in Kherson is overcrowded with wounded Russian soldiers and there is a shortage of medicines. There are reports of Russian military drone strikes in the Ukrainian city of Bila Serkva.
Russia is attacking with Iranian drones
The Russian military’s attacks through Iran’s suicide drones have emerged as a major challenge for the Ukrainian military in recent days. The Russian army, which has occupied much of Donetsk, has intensified attacks to capture the remaining area. Eight towns and villages are his target.
Approval of the proposal for the merger of Ukrainian territories with Russia
It is to be known that this week both houses of the Russian Parliament approved the proposal to merge the four Ukrainian regions with Russia. After this the resolution passed by Parliament was sent for the approval of President Putin. After Putin’s signing of the proposal, notification of the four regions becoming part of Russia has been issued on the Russian government’s website. Earlier, in the referendum held from 23 to 27 September, a majority of the people of these four regions had voted to go with Russia.
Serious impact on the economy of Ukraine
All four of these areas were occupied by the Russian army in a seven-month-long war. It is reported that the majority of the population of these regions is Russian speaking. This region of eastern Ukraine is endowed with industrial and natural resources. Its joining Russia is expected to have a serious impact on the economy of Ukraine. Earlier in 2014, Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula through the same process.
Strong opposition to the referendum
Ukraine and its pro-Western countries strongly opposed the September referendum and rejected it outright. Ukraine has declared war on taking back its land from Russia. Whereas Russia has said that the attack on Luhansk, Donsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia will be considered an attack on Russia. This attack will be responded with full force. A retaliatory attack can also be done with a nuclear weapon.
Negotiations ruled out
Ukraine has announced an expedited process of applying for membership of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), ruling out the possibility of talks with Russia. NATO is a US-led military organization. Ukraine’s desire to join NATO is the main reason for the Russian military’s attack on it.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that he had liberated three villages in the country’s southern Kherson region from Russian occupation. Novovoskresenske, Novogrygorivka and Petropavlivka are the three villages that have been liberated. Zelensky said that these three villages have been liberated in the last 24 hours. The President of Ukraine gave this information by posting a video on social media. He said that Ukraine’s counter-attack is continuing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and stressed that there can be no “military solution” to the Ukraine crisis. He also underlined that putting nuclear installations at risk can have far-reaching and disastrous effects.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that Modi and Zelensky discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine and during this time again reiterated that it can be resolved only through dialogue and diplomacy.
“The Prime Minister reiterated his call for the need to end this fight at the earliest and move forward on the path of dialogue and diplomacy,” the PMO said.
Meanwhile, India abstained from voting at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on a draft resolution tabled by the US and Albania that condemned Russia’s “illegal referendum” and its occupation of Ukrainian territories.
The resolution demanded that Russia immediately withdraw its forces from Ukraine. The 15 countries of the council were to vote on this resolution, but Russia used a veto against it, due to which the resolution could not be passed.
10 countries voted in support of this resolution and four countries China, Gabon, India and Brazil did not participate in the vote.
