Strong opposition to the referendum

Negotiations ruled out
Ukraine has announced an expedited process of applying for membership of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), ruling out the possibility of talks with Russia. NATO is a US-led military organization. Ukraine’s desire to join NATO is the main reason for the Russian military’s attack on it.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that he had liberated three villages in the country’s southern Kherson region from Russian occupation. Novovoskresenske, Novogrygorivka and Petropavlivka are the three villages that have been liberated. Zelensky said that these three villages have been liberated in the last 24 hours. The President of Ukraine gave this information by posting a video on social media. He said that Ukraine’s counter-attack is continuing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and stressed that there can be no “military solution” to the Ukraine crisis. He also underlined that putting nuclear installations at risk can have far-reaching and disastrous effects.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that Modi and Zelensky discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine and during this time again reiterated that it can be resolved only through dialogue and diplomacy.
“The Prime Minister reiterated his call for the need to end this fight at the earliest and move forward on the path of dialogue and diplomacy,” the PMO said.
Meanwhile, India abstained from voting at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on a draft resolution tabled by the US and Albania that condemned Russia’s “illegal referendum” and its occupation of Ukrainian territories.
The resolution demanded that Russia immediately withdraw its forces from Ukraine. The 15 countries of the council were to vote on this resolution, but Russia used a veto against it, due to which the resolution could not be passed.
10 countries voted in support of this resolution and four countries China, Gabon, India and Brazil did not participate in the vote.
